Customization

settings

I used KDE Plasma when I was using Arch Linux. It was my next Desktop environment after Linux Mint’s Cinnamon. Even though I found Cinnamon Desktop very customizable, I was impressed with KDE Plasma and it customization. There is so much you can do with Plasma, and it’s a very user friendly desktop to use. Everything from the simple Windows 7 like menu and to the layout of the settings UI and more.

On my last install of Arch Linux with KDE Plasma 6.2.0 I found it difficult to get the “Discover” software app working. In the past I just installed the packagekit-qt5 and it worked. Now it’s recommended to install Flatpak and or Snap.

konsole

I found the terminal “Konsole” to be very usable once I configured it to my liking. So actually I am a bit lost at the choice of terminals. I’ve used, gnome-terminal, Terminator, Kitty as well as Konsole and others. I find they are all pretty similar for me. Because I’m only an average user I am sure more experienced Linux users see their individual benefits.

wallpaper

The default wallpapers in KDE Plasma are varied and the wallpaper UI lets you choose from a wide range of user submitted wallpapers which is great. The other types of customization available are:

  • Colors,
  • Night Light,
  • Application Style,
  • Plasma Style,
  • Window Decorations,
  • Icons,
  • Cursers,
  • System Sounds,
  • Splash Screen
  • Login Screen.
